Volunteer to help at the kent area council clothing bank
Kent schools and the Clothing Bank
All schools in the Kent school district are asked to help out on two scheduled evenings during the school year at the school district Clothing Bank. Emerald Park PTA is responsible for bringing at least 5 volunteers to our "shift night" on Sept. 8 from 5:30-8 p.m.
Also, for those who use Facebook, the Clothing Bank now has a Facebook page. Clothing Bank need requests are often posted on Facebook, so Facebook users can visit the Kent Area Clothing Bank Facebook page for updated information.
Clothing Bank donations
The Clothing Bank most often is in very short supply of new underwear and socks. Warm coats also are always in great need.
Clothing must be clean and have no broken zippers, missing buttons, or stains. Drop off clothing donations at the Kent Phoenix Academy drop box at the west end of building (see the Kent Area PTA Clothing Bank website for directions), or donations can be brought to Emerald Park.
Emerald Park families have donated over 1,000 garments during past drives!
Volunteering at the Clothing Bank
The Clothing Bank could not operate without hours of help from local schools. See their schedule (PDF) for each Kent school to help twice a year. Extra work parties are also scheduled on a regular basis.
Volunteers are asked to arrive at 5:45 p.m. for a quick orientation. They help hang and sort donations, work the sock and underwear room, and help families check out their clothing finds.
For more information about the Clothing Bank or to volunteer, email [email protected] or call 206-271-5137 or 253-797-2531. Consider the rewarding and flexible Clothing Bank Coordinator and Drive Coordinator volunteer positions at Emerald Park also, described at right.
